Neurocognitive and Educational Assessments

Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is an evidence-based therapy for anxiety, depression, OCD, and PTSD. It helps young people understand how thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are connected. Therapy can be delivered directly or via parents, depending on the child’s age.

MBT helps individuals and families understand and regulate emotions. It is particularly effective for difficulties with relationships, self-harm, and emotional dysregulation. Increasing evidence supports its use for younger children and family-based interventions.

Mentalisation Based Therapy (MBT)

Family Therapy (Including Family Therapy for Eating Disorders)

Family therapy strengthens relationships and communication within the family system. It is the recommended treatment for anorexia (FT-AN) and bulimia (FT-BN) and can be helpful for young people with other difficulties such as self-harm and depression.

Personalised Individual Parent Training (PIPT)

PIPT is an evidence-based programme for managing child behavioural difficulties. Parents receive consultation sessions and live coaching to practice strategies tailored to their child’s needs. This can be delivered remotely via video link within the family home in the context where behaviours occur. Older children may benefit from additional therapy alongside parent-led sessions.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a recommended treatment for PTSD and trauma-related difficulties. It helps young people process distressing memories and associated negative thoughts. There is growing evidence of its effectiveness for phobias and anxiety.

Video-Feedback Intervention to Promote Positive Parenting and Sensitive Discipline (VIPP-SD)

VIPP-SD is a structured programme using video feedback to support positive parenting in young children. Parents develop strategies to enhance their child’s emotional well-being. Research shows that VIPP-SD is effective for strengthening attachments and reducing behavioural problems.

PBS helps families and those working with young people to understand and manage challenging behaviours effectively. It focuses on identifying and minimising the triggers of behavioural problems, developing de-escalation strategies and supporting young people to develop skills.

Positive Behavioural Support (PBS)

Psychoeducation provides families with key insights into conditions like autism or ADHD. Sessions are tailored to help parents and young people to navigate diagnoses and access appropriate support. This includes information, practical strategies and advice on how families can navigate processes such as Educational Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

Medication Management

Psychiatric Assessment & Medication Review

Before prescribing medication, our Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrists conduct a comprehensive assessment to determine whether medication is an appropriate treatment option. This includes a full review of medical history, symptoms, and previous treatments.

Medication Initiation & Titration

If medication is recommended, our team provides careful guidance on starting treatment. We use a personalised approach to find the right medication and dosage, ensuring safety and effectiveness while monitoring for any side effects.

Ongoing Medication Monitoring

Regular follow-ups are essential for assessing the effectiveness of medication and making any necessary adjustments. We work closely with young people and their families to ensure the best possible outcomes and minimise side effects.

Collaborative Care & Multidisciplinary Support

Medication management is integrated with other therapeutic approaches where needed. We collaborate with therapists, schools, and other professionals to provide holistic, well-rounded care tailored to each child’s needs. On many occasions, we are able to pass prescribing responsibility to your child’s NHS GP via shared-care guidelines to minimise the financial burden.

Parent & Family Guidance on Medication

We understand that starting or managing medication can be overwhelming for families. Our team provides clear information, guidance, and support to help parents and caregivers make informed decisions about their child’s treatment.

Education Support Service

School Avoidance & Attendance Support

We help young people struggling with school anxiety, avoidance, or non-attendance by identifying underlying issues and working with families and schools to create personalised re-engagement plans.

Special Educational Needs (SEN) Support & Guidance

Our team provides expert assessments and recommendations for children with learning difficulties, ADHD, autism, or other SEN needs, ensuring they receive the right support in their educational setting.

Exam Stress & Academic Pressure Management

We offer strategies to help students cope with exam-related anxiety, perfectionism, and academic stress, fostering resilience and improving performance without compromising mental well-being.

School Consultations & Teacher Training

We collaborate with schools to provide training for teachers and staff on understanding and supporting students with mental health challenges, behavioural difficulties, and neurodevelopmental conditions.

Transition Support (Primary to Secondary & Beyond)

Changing schools or moving to higher education can be challenging. We provide targeted support to help students navigate transitions smoothly, ensuring they feel prepared and confident in their new environment.

Adoption and Fostering Clinic

Pre-Adoption & Fostering Psychological Assessments

We provide comprehensive psychological assessments to help prospective adoptive parents and foster carers understand a child’s emotional and developmental needs before placement. These assessments can be used to improve the ‘fit’ between a child and their prospective family.

Specialist Post-adoption Assessments

Adopted children experience high levels of common mental health problems (e.g., anxiety, depression, PTSD and behavioural disorders), neurodevelopmental conditions and attachment and trauma-related difficulties. Our team offer highly specialist assessments of these concerns to inform personalised and evidence-based intervention plans.

Adopted & fostered children often present with complex profiles (i.e. neurodevelopmental differences, temperamental difficulties, attachment concerns, trauma histories) that mean that they do not respond to ‘classic’ parenting strategies, requiring a personalised approach. Our team other bespoke parental support adapted to the individual needs of your child.

Parenting Support

Evidence-based psychological interventions

Despite many adopted children presenting with common and highly treatable mental health problems they are frequently unable to access evidence-based support from mental health services. At The C.W. Clinic we specialise in providing targeted interventions that are backed by research and consistent with national guidelines (see Therapy section for further details).

Parent & Family Guidance on Medication

Where required, our Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrists can provide medication management alongside psychological intervention.

Corporate Services

Corporate Parenting Programmes

For many professionals, balancing a demanding career with the responsibilities of parenting can be difficult. We understand that finding time to access support during working hours is not always possible. That’s why at the C.W. Clinic, we offer evidence-based group parenting programs in the evenings, making it easier for hard-working parents to access help. Our programs build confidence and skills, including strategies for parenting children with additional needs.

Corporate Parent Consultation Sessions

We understand that group programs may not suit everyone—some professionals may prefer a more private approach, or have children with complex needs requiring tailored support. For these families, we offer individual consultation sessions, providing highly specialist advice and, where appropriate, recommendations for further assessment and support. These sessions are available throughout the day and into the late evening, offering flexibility for parents with long work hours or those in different time zones.

Training on Mental Health Awareness & Neurodevelopmental Conditions

We can provide bespoke training packages on mental health problems and neurodevelopmental conditions, either as a one-off or part of a series of events. All our trainings are rooted in the latest research and informed by national guidelines. Our founders have significant experience in developing and delivering bespoke training packages for a range of audiences.

Organisational Consultation & Policy Development

We work with businesses and organisations to provide expert advice related to child and adolescent mental health, parenting, neurodevelopmental conditions, adoption and fostering and early life trauma and adverse experiences.
